Passenger lifts
Homes in Sedgemoor ensures that lifts are regularly inspected, kept safe for use and regularly serviced to minimise the risk of accidents and injuries.
The Homes in Sedgemoor Compliance and Building Safety team carry out visual inspections to the lifts as part of their monthly block inspections.
Our contractor Deltron carries out regular servicing and repairs and Ashdale carries out inspections to ensure that the lifts are maintained to a high standard. These occur on the following frequencies:
Type | Service Frequency | Inspection frequency |
Passenger Lifts in Domestic Blocks – High rise | Every 1 month | Every 6 months |
Passenger lift in domestic blocks | Every 3 months | Every 6 months |
Here are some safety tips to remember when using a lift:
- Watch your step, the lift car may not be perfectly level with the floor.
- Don’t overload a lift – all lifts have a weight restriction. Be sure to check the maximum occupancy level next time you use yours to make sure it doesn’t get overloaded.
- Stand clear of the doors, keep your clothes and items away from the opening.
- Keep a firm hold of children and pets
- Passengers nearest to the doors should move first when the car arrives.
- Push and hold the DOOR OPEN button if doors need to be held open or ask someone to push the button for you.
- Never try to stop a closing door, wait for the next car.
- Pay attention to the floor indications.
- If the doors do not open when the lift stops, push the DOOR OPEN button.
- In the event of a fire – if there is a fire in your building do not use the lift. If you need to leave the building you must take the stairs.
- If you get stuck in a lift – if the lift gets stuck, don’t panic. You can call for help by pressing the alarm button. Do not attempt to open the lift car or landing doors to escape. Remain calm until help arrives.
If you spot any problems with a lift, please let us know by calling 0800 585 360 or via email to customer.services@homesinsedgemoor.org.
