As part of New Homes Week we want to showcase our fabulous Development Team here at Homes in Sedgemoor, who are tasked with identifying the need for local, affordable housing.
The team joined us from Sedgemoor District Council in 2022 and became full-time Homes in Sedgemoor colleagues in January 2023, and they are currently overseeing the launch of multiple development sites throughout Sedgemoor and Somerset.
Thanks to investment of £27.5 million, they’ve had 147 new homes approved.
29 energy efficient homes are being built on the Bigwood and Staple Printworks site in Bridgwater town centre. Originally planned as a private open market development, the site was bought by Sedgemoor District Council to create homes at social rent, which will be managed by Homes in Sedgemoor.
14 new affordable homes have been and are being built on the Sydenham Garages site. This development makes great use of redundant land in Bridgwater. Demand for garages has dropped and many garage sites are underused and surplus to requirements and are no longer needed for their original purpose. Under the £4.2m investment. This development includes a six-bedroom adapted property.
36 affordable low environmental impact apartments are due to be built by the end of 2024. The new homes in Bridgwater will be built on land previously occupied by the semi-derelict Penlea House, a Victorian estate property. The £5.5m investment is being supported by Homes England Funding.
A £3.3m grant from the government organisation Homes England to Homes in Sedgemoor will see 16 brand new affordable homes made available in Nether Stowey at the Cricketer Farm Development. These homes will be available through social rent rather than the more expensive affordable rent level.
Bespoke Homes Project
This project fills the void that main developers and other partners are not delivering. It will soon commence delivering bespoke homes for families using underused council land.
