Job description
What’s the role?
Housing Team Leader – Community Enabler (six-month fixed post)
£32,909 – £35,411 (pro-rata)
You will:
- Support delivery of the Corporate Strategy and Customer Influence and Engagement Strategy
- Develop innovative and sustainable ways to connect communities and customers of Homes in Sedgemoor, supporting them to develop and sustain community development activities, tailored to their needs and aspirations.
- Lead on Homes in Sedgemoor’s (HIS) partnership work with colleagues, bringing them together with community and strategic partners and stakeholders.
What will I have to do?
- As part of a wider leadership and multi-disciplinary housing management team, support customer focus and engagement activity across the organisation
- Lead your specialist team to drive forward a progressive strategy to connect communities and customers of Homes in Sedgemoor. Build their capacity to be self-sufficient in sustaining community development activities, tailored to their needs and aspirations
- Develop innovative ways to connect with customers and communities, maximising: digital and relational connections, levels of involvement, the range of customers working with us and their influence on the business
- Contribute to the development and review of strategic approaches
- Create new ways to connect underrepresented people and groups with their communities
- Develop and deliver meaningful and creative, initiatives that maximise community development in a defined geographical area
- Grow the capacity of customers and communities through partnerships working to increase self-sufficiency, autonomy, impact and contribution
- Identify and progress funding opportunities that support and enhance community development
- Develop effective and beneficial partnerships with customers and partner organisations
- Connect activity to the wider work of the organisation
- Promote the approaches and strategy to maximise reach and impact
- Contribute to the assessment, measurement and impact of Community Enabler activities
- Deliver Community Enabler activity
- Co-ordinate and deliver external customer events on behalf of the organisation
- Work as an effective member of the Community Enabler team, taking lead responsibility in defined areas of work across Sedgemoor neighbourhoods
- Identify and secure external funding to support and promote community development across the district
- Support and administer “start-up” grants and yearly funding to tenant and resident groups in the district
- Support and contribute to the development of policies for all aspects of work carried out in relation to the Team’s activities that comply with legislation, good practice and regulatory requirements, and ensure that procedures and systems are in place to support these
- Lead responsibility for supporting STAC (Sedgemoor Tenants Assurance Committee)
- Be an active member of the Homes in Sedgemoor Leadership team
- Take responsibility for recruiting and managing your team, including their well-being and performance
- Ensure information is communicated to individuals and the team, and the business in general, in a timely and accurate manner
- Take responsibility for identifying training needs for involved customers and colleagues, updating knowledge of changes in legislation, best practices and other developments
What do I need to be successful?
- To work closely with wider organisational multi-disciplinary teams to promote customer focus and engagement
- The ability to deliver innovative and tailored approaches to connect customers and communities, and influence services
- Highly developed organisational skills
- Good analytical skills, with the ability to produce statistical data and management information that supports performance evidence
- A track record of creating connections that have increased the engagement of under-represented groups or individuals
- Working knowledge of customer-led service scrutiny
- Strong experience in working with customers to build their capacity and autonomy
- Work, or volunteer experience in social housing and/or community development and/or project development and management
- Good presentation development and delivery skills

- Deliver the Customer Influence and Engagement Strategy in consultation with my manager
About Homes in Sedgemoor
We are an ALMO responsible for delivering housing management, maintenance and community services to more than 4,200 tenancies and leaseholders on behalf of Somerset Council.
We commenced operations on April 1, 2007, and agreed on a new 30-year Management Agreement with the council this year. This sets out the condition, obligations, and service requirements with which we are required to comply.
