The opening ceremony for the Homes in Sedgemoor Sydenham Garages project is being held next month.
The project looked to identify garages that were being underused and found sites including two off Avalon Road, one of Saxon Green, and one off Chamberlin Avenue, where existing garages could be demolished and replaced with 14 highly efficient homes. HiS is delighted to announce the opening on October 17.
“Sadly, more and more people are asking us for help to find genuinely affordable, warm suitable homes. These new homes now allow us to help some of these people. A few years ago, the council took the bold decision to invest over £4m to recycle four tired and redundant garage sites to build the modern homes we see today. We have built 14 new homes, including a 6-bedroom bespoke home specifically designed to address a unique housing problem faced by a local family.
“With the demand for genuinely affordable housing on the increase, projects such as this – we hope building homes on the brownfield unused sites, recycling council owned land will become an increasingly important part of the future of our housing development plans as we support the council to tackle housing need.”
Duncan Harvey, Housing Development Manager at Homes in Sedgemoor
